Last rites of Tarun Gogoi to be performed on November 26

GUWAHATI: The last rites of former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi who had passed away on Monday evening will be performed in Guwahati on November 26, informed Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora.

The mortal remains of the veteran leader will be taken from the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) to his official residence on Tuesday morning. Later, the body will be taken to the Rajiv Bhawan to allow Congress party members to pay their last respects to Gogoi.

“As per family’s wish, Gogoi’s body will also be kept at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra to allow all people to pay their last respect to the senior leader” Bora said.

Then, on November 26, the final journey of the departed leader will begin in the morning. “As per Gogoi’s own wish during his lifetime, the body will be first taken to one temple, one mosque, one church and one gurdwara, before the cremation,” Ripun Bora said.
