Lafikul Islam murder case: CBI releases images of killers, announces cash reward


Guwahati: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday released photographs of three tribal youths– Rupa Brahma, Dingkur Mushahary and Bhadreswar Basumatari who murdered All Bodoland Minority Student Union (ABMSU) leader Lafikul Islam in Kokrajhar. 

According to the CBI, the assailants of the minority students’ body leaders are currently on the run. 

The CBI has released images of the three assailants and announced a Rs 2 lakh reward for leads on the trio.

Lafikul Islam, then ABMSU president was shot dead in Titaguri Market under Kokrajhar district in 2017. The murder sparked widespread protests across the region.

The Centre handed over the investigation of Lafikul Islam murder case to CBI.

CBI registered a case under section 302 (Murder), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon) read with 34 (criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code and 25 (1), 27(3) of Arms Act.

Earlier Assam government had constituted a Special Investigative Team (SIT) headed to inquire into the brutal murder of Islam and provided ex-gratia relief of Rs. 5 lakh to the next of kin of the slain ABMSU leader.
