King Kohli becomes highest run-scorer in T20 World Cup history

PUBLISHED:

Virat Kohli on Wednesday became the highest run-scorer in the history of T20 World Cups, surpassing Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene. The former Indian skipper shattered one of the biggest milestones in the history of World Cups.

Jayawardene was at the top of the list with 1016 runs ahead of India’s match versus Bangladesh, but Virat surpassed him on Wednesday, shattering yet another record, just like he has been doing since he first donned the Indian jersey.

Kohli scored 185 runs in the T20 World Cup in 2012; he was the competition’s top-scorer in 2014 and the second highest run-getter in 2016. Kohli was the Player of the Tournament in 2014 and 2016.

Here, against Bangladesh, Kohli finished unbeaten on a 44-ball 64 as India set Bangladesh a target of 185.

Kohli has been in top form in the 2022 T20 World Cup, with two fifties, including a sensational 82 against Pakistan in Melbourne.

India captain Rohit Sharma is the second-leading run-scorer in T20 World Cups and T20Is among active cricketers.
