‘Karbi Democratic Liberation Front’ Chief Jackson Ronghang killed in encounter

Guwahati: The self-proclaimed chairman of the newly formed insurgent group Karbi Democratic Liberation Front (KDLF), Jackson Ronghang, was neutralized on Friday in an encounter in Karbi Anglong. He was allegedly involved in the recent kidnapping of three construction workers.

An operation was launched based on the revelation of one Amarjyoti Terang, recently arrested in Rongmonwey in connection with the kidnapping of three workers on a bridge construction site in the village on December 10.

While one of the hostages has been rescued already, police continued search operation for the other two.

“Acting on a tip off about Ronghang’s possible movement in the jungles near the village, police launched a search operation in the area. During the search operation, gun fire broke out between the security forces and militants in which Ronghang received gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” said police sources.

A pistol, several cartridges and some documents were also recovered from the slain militant’s possession.

The KDLF was formed earlier this year, despite six Karbi insurgent groups have entered into peace talks with the state government.
