GUWAHATI: Hours before the campaign for the third phase of Assam assembly elections comes to an end on Sunday, BJP star campaigner and Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma  addressed his only election rally in his constituency—Jalukbari.

Dr. Sarma who campaigned across the state for his party and its allies addressed his first and only public meeting in Jalukbari on the last day of canvassing.

“I have immense faith in the people of Jalukbari, you are like my family,” Sarma said in an emotionally charged speech at the election rally held at Sualkuchi.

“Everyone in Jalukbari is dear to me,” he added.

The BJP strongman of North-East expressed his gratitude to the people of the constituency for their immense love and support throughout his political career. He has been winning the Jalukbari seat since 2001.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal who was also present in the rally heaved praises on minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

He credited Dr. Sarma for successful completion of multiple major projects in the Jalukbari constituency.

“As a sign of gratitude to Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, 95 per cent people of Jalukbari should cast their votes for Sarma,” Sonowal said.

Though union home minister Amit Shah was supposed to address the Sualkuchi rally, he had to cut short his schedule and returned to the national capital in view of Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur Naxal attack.

“Very kind of Hon HM Sri

@AmitShah

to have come at Sualkuchi helipad especially to bless me ahead of our public meeting. Following the dharma of duty first and nation foremost, he had to return to Delhi in wake of a Naxal attack in #Chhattisgarh, in which we lost our brave hearts,” Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.
