IPL 2023: Arjun Tendulkar picks his first IPL wicket against SRH in stunning final over for MI

PUBLISHED:

Arjun Tendulkar bowled brilliantly in the 20th over as Mumbai Indians beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 14 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Tuesday, April 18 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. While defending 20 runs in the last over, the left-arm pacer gave away only five runs.

Tendulkar was entrusted to bowl the last over and it was a big call from the MI team management. They had the option of using the likes of Tim David and Hrithik Shokeen, but Mumbai preferred Arjun, who had only bowled four overs prior to that in his IPL career.

n the first ball, Arjun bowled a wide Yorker and Abdul Samad missed the ball altogether. Samad tried to make amends by taking two runs off the next delivery. He managed to complete one run, but got run out at the striker’s end.

Samad was struggling as he scored only nine runs off 12 balls. Arjun lost his line a wee bit after he conceded a wide. Thereafter, Markande picked up two runs as the equation kept getting tougher and tougher for the Sunrisers.

Tendulkar gave a leg bye on the fourth delivery as SRH needed 15 runs off the last two balls. Arjun didn’t stop there and went on to pick up his maiden IPL wicket in the form of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who had no other option apart from swinging his bat.

Bhuvneshwar tried to go down the ground, but found an outside edge and Rohit Sharma took a simple catch at extra cover. While father Sachin couldn’t get a wicket in the IPL, Arjun had opened his account and in style.

Arjun finished with figures of 2.5-0-18-1. It was the first time Arjun bowled in the death over of an IPL match and he came out with flying colours.

Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to celebrate the win and his son’s maiden IPL wicket.
