International Chefs Day today, here’s things you should know

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: The world is celebrating International Chefs Day today. International Chefs Day is observed every year on October 20 to celebrate and honour the noble profession, and to educate people around the world about eating healthy.

Here are some important details you should know about this day:

International Chefs Day History & significance

Dr. Bill Gallagher, a renowned chef and the former president of the World Association of Chefs Societies (World Chefs), created International Chefs Day in 2004.

For over sixteen years, WorldChefs has used International Chefs Day to honour the profession and educate people about healthy food. In the past few years, Worldchefs has partnered with Nestlé Professional to educate children about the importance of eating healthy by hosting fun workshops.

International Chefs Day 2020 Theme

International Chefs Day has a central theme every year. ‘How Healthy Food Works’, ‘Healthy Foods for Growing Up’, ‘Foods for Healthy Heroes’, ‘Art on a Plate’ were some of past themes.

This year’s theme is ‘Healthy Food For the Future’.

“In order to ensure a healthy planet for future generations, it is vital that we start teaching our children about the impact that production and consumption of food actually, have on the environment. It is for this reason that Nestlé Professional has recommended our theme for International Chefs Day this year be focused around sustainability and the environment,” WorldChefs.org described the theme of the year.

How to observe International Chefs Day?

There are many ways to participate in #InternationalChefsDay.

Normally, chefs from all over the world host events to promote the profession, hold culinary competitions and communicate with children about healthy eating via presentations.  But things are different this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

To participate in the day’s activities, one can simply prepare a favourite recipe and share it with their loved ones or teach someone how to make a recipe from scratch.

As most things are getting done online this year, one can host a simple online cooking competition with friends.

Besides, chefs from all around the world are invited to host their own ‘Healthy Food for the Future’ workshop in their respective regions.
