India reported 10,158 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours with the active caseload reaching 44,998 as of Thursday morning. India, on average, recorded 5,555 Covid-19 daily in the last week as compared to 3,108 the week before, according to data shared by the Union Health Ministry.

Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla said yesterday that it has restarted manufacturing of the Covishield vaccine. He said the company already has six million booster doses of the Covovax vaccine available and adults must take the booster shot.

In 2021-22, the year that started with the deadly second wave of Covid-19, street vendors who took loans of Rs 5,000-10,000 under a Central scheme, were hit the hardest, with almost half of those who borrowed defaulting on their repayment. But overall, between July 2020 and February 2023, just 17.51 per cent of the total number of loans turned bad or non-performing.
