Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hoisted the national flag and delivered the customary address to the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort in New Delhi on the occasion of 76th Independence Day. Prior to that, he inspected the Guard of Honour which was positioned directly in front of the National Flag across the moat below the ramparts.

PM Modi hoisted the national flag wearing a traditional white kurta and churidar paired with a blue jacket and black shoes. Last year, he wore a saffron turban with red patterns and a long pink trail.

PM Modi was received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt and Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar. Later, a combined Inter-Services and Delhi Police Guard presented a general salute to the Prime Minister.

“By the 100th year of Independence, we have to work with the vision of accomplishing what our freedom fighters dreamt of,” PM Modi said while addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 76th Independence Day.

“I urge the youth to dedicate the next 25 years of their lives to the development of the nation. We will work towards even the development of the entire humanity. That is the strength of India,” PM Modi said.

“For the next 25 years we need to focus on the five resolves – developed India, removing every trace of bondage from our mind, taking pride in our glorious heritage, unity, and fulfilling our duties,” PM Modi added.

PM Modi also paid tribute to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat
