Guwahati: Incessant rainfall since the past 24 hours has wreaked havoc in Sikkim, with multiple landslides blocking the state’s vital National Highway 10. The key highway serves as the main link between state capital Gangtok and Siliguri.

With the blocking of the Siliguri-Sikkim highway, the hill state is essentially cut off from the rest of India.

According to sources, serpentine traffic jam has been witnessed in both Sikkim and West Bengal and several tourists are stuck near the inter-state border.

Local government officials also revealed that four workers working on the Sevoke Rangpo railway project at Mamkhola are missing after the heavy rainfall.

All four workers were on a night shift when the region witnessed extremely heavy rainfall. In a separate landslide, one worker was declared dead and two rescued near Melli.
