GUWAHATI : Assam continues to make rapid strides in its war against COVID19 making significant advancement in testing and recovery of patients while at the same time registering the lowest mortality rates among all the States.

While the mortality rate in Assam has been just 0.24% — lowest among all the States excluding smaller States — Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s mantra – Test, Trace, Isolate and Treat – the cornerstone of Assam’s battle against COVID 19, has also helped in catapulting the State to fourth best in the recoveries chart: 75% of the total infected people have recovered and are now leading a normal life.

Significantly, the mortality rate of 0.24% is also way lower than the country’s overall rate of 2.13%.

Meanwhile, as the focus remains on ramping up testing with nearly 10 lakh tests conducted in the State so far, Assam inched up to the fifth spot in tests conducted per million: the number inching to an impressive 27,544.

To add to these numbers, Assam has added two plasma banks with Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurating the second facility to collect and store plasma at the Tezpur Medical College Hospital (TMCH) earlier today.

Amid these developments, and as Sarma continues to grab all attention for his and his department’s very determined battle against COVID-19, he says that they have been working not to put up any model but for a larger goal of humanity and that their commitment to fighting the pandemic has been robust.

Model or not, the efforts of Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, his trusted deputy Pijush Hazarika and all health officials – doctors, nurses and other frontline medical staff included – has been hailed and appreciated across the country and even abroad.
