GUWAHATI, Oct 28: Compounding worries of both the police and anti-trafficking organizations, Tezpur Police have gathered substantial leads in their probe into an organized human trafficking gang operating in Sonitpur district. Police say they are now working on the leads they gathered while probing a case of three missing minors who were later rescued from Srinagar, the Jammu & Kashmir capital.
The three minors, all of them school students, were trafficked from Tezpur and then taken to Jammu & Kashmir via New Delhi. They were later rescued by a team of Tezpur Police led by DSP Dipjyoti Bharali with the help of their counterparts in Srinagar and Baramulla.
The three minors had gone missing on Oct 14 following which their parents lodged a missing complaint with Tezpur Police and a probe was initiated by police leading to their rescue.
The three trafficked minors said they were promised jobs and that the pimp who was in touch with them first brought them to Guwahati from where they were taken to Rangia.
They were then made to board a train to New Delhi from where they were finally taken to Srinagar.
“We had received a police complaint about three minors of Borghat locality going missing. After a case was registered, we started a probe. It came to light in our investigations that the three minors were taken to Jammu & Kashmir. A team went to Srinagar, and with the help of Srinagar and Baramulla Police, the three minors were rescued and brought back to Tezpur,” Nomal Mahato, Sonitpur Addl. SP, told News Live.
“It’s an organized gang and many people are involved,” he further said, adding that they believe some people from Nagaon, Udalguri and Rangia are involved in the trafficking gang.
Police said thay are hopeful of cracking the case after gathering significant clues during investigations.
