HM Amit Shah takes stock of flood situation in Assam

Guwahati: Union home minister Amit Shah took stock of the flood situation in Assam in a telephonic conversation with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma last evening.

During the deliberations, the union home minister expressed concern over problems faced by citizens at this time of crisis. Besides, Shah also assured Chief Minister Sarma of all possible help to the state to deal with the natural calamity.

Several parts of Assam are reeling under the devastating impact of floods and landslides. Over 5 lakh people in 26 districts of the state have been the worst affected by the floods so far.

Given the situation, the Assam Government will be holding a crucial cabinet meeting around 6 PM today.

Meanwhile, there is no improvement in the situation in Dima Hasao. Incessant rains last night has only deteriorated conditions in the district, triggering Landslides in multiple locations of the state as well as national highways. Normal life continues to remain at the standstill with communication still cut off.
