Himanta Biswa Sarma visits residence of #COVID19 Amullya Kalita, offers condolences

Guwahati: Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday went to Rangita to console the family of Amullya Kalita, who died from COVID-19 in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Amullya Kalita died at GMCH , prior to the detection of the disease. His swab was later tested after his death following the mandatory protocol and was found positive for COVID-19.   Yesterday another patient, a Mumbai-returned cancer patient had also succumbed to death.

Dr. Sarma who has been at the forefront of the battle against Coronavirus in Assam met the deceased’s family and joined them in this hour of grief. He also took his official twitter handle to offer his condolences where he wrote, “At Rangia, I met the family of Amullya Kalita, whom we unfortunately lost at GMCH last night due to #COVID19, and offered my condolences. I join them in this moment of grief and pray to God to grant them the strength to bear this loss”.

The cases in Assam are rising on a daily basis which is definitely alarming. And Monday saw the biggest single day spike in the state’s history.

So far on Tuesday, 20 people have detected positive within the time span of one hour. At 11.05 AM, Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted about 6 new positive cases in the state. Among them, two cases each are from Jorhat and Golaghat, while one case each has been reported from Kokrajhar and Nagaon. One of the Jorhat patients had returned from Chennai while other patients had returned from Darjeeling.

Later in the day, Dr. Sarma again took to announce that 14 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed. Of the new cases, 7 are from Kamrup , 2 from Hojai, 2 from Biswanath, 1 from Nagaon, and 2 from Nalbari. 

With these new cases, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Assam has jumped to 135. Currently, with 4 deaths and recovery of 41 patients, there are 88 cases in the state. Two patients have migrated to other states.
