GUWAHATI: NEDA convenor and senior BJP leader Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as 15th chief minister of Assam at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati on Monday.
Here are important and interesting facts about CM Dr Sarma.
Early Life:
Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was born on February 1, 1969 to Late Kailash Nath Sarma and Mrinalini Devi.
Education:
Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma started his formal education at Natun Sarania LP School in Guwahati. He did his high schooling from Kamrup Academy. Sarma held various positions in student union body at Kamrup Academy.(This story published on www.newslivetv.com)

After matriculation, Himanta Biswa Sarma joined prestigious Cotton College (Now Cotton University). He studied at Cotton College from higher secondary to post-graduation. Dr Sarma post-graduated in Political Science from Cotton College under Gauhati University. Sarma was general secretary of Cotton College Union Society (CCUS) for three terms in 1988-89, 1989-90 and 1991-1992. (This story published on www.newslivetv.com)

Family:
Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma married to Riniki Bhuyan Sharma in 2001. They have one son and a daughter.
Political career:
Himanta Biswa Sarma was elected to Assam Legislative Assembly for the first time from Jalukbari constituency on a Congress ticket in 2001. He was re-elected from the same constituency in 2006, 2011 and 2016. In recent Assam assembly elections, Dr Sarma won the Jalukbari seat by a margin of more than one lakh votes. Sarma was a minister of state for agriculture, planning and development, health, education and finance in 2001. In 2006 he became cabinet minister of health and family welfare, information and technology and science and technology. In Tarun-Gogoi led cabinet in 2011, he held the position of minister for education, health and family welfare and implementation of Assam Accord.

In outgoing Sarbananda Sonowal-led cabinet, Sarma is the minister of finance, health and family welfare, PWD, transformation and development and education (Higher, Secondary & Elementary).
Dr Sarma is also convener of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA).
Besides that he is president of Badminton Association of India.
Interesting facts:

Sarma recently translated biography of union home minister Amit Shah from English to Assamese. He translated the English book titled ‘Amit Shah and the March of BJP’ to Assamese – ‘Amit Shah aru Agragami BJP’.
