GUWAHATI: Assam health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday visited Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (HMCH) to take stock of COVID-19 arrangements. Minister Sarma put on personal protection equipment (PPE) kit to personally review the situation.
“I always stand alongside our doctors and healthcare staff who are dedicating their exemplary services for #COVID19 management. At GMCH today, I visited the Covid ICU unit along with doctors, by putting on a PPE kit to see patients. My gratitude to all healthcare professionals,” Sarma tweeted.

Earlier on Wednesday night, Dr Sarma visited the Ulubari cremation ground in Guwahati and met the family members of COVID-19 victims.
“Unfortunate that it is there are those who are losing their near & dear ones. To ensure that those who leave for heavenly abode get the dignity that they deserve, I visited Ulubari Smasan (cremation ground) in Guwahati & met the bereaving family members. My prayers & condolences,” Sarma said in a tweet.

Assam on Wednesday reported 55 COVID-related deaths.
The COVID death toll in the state now stands at 1,485.
The state also registered 4,826 new COVID-19 cases, which took the tally to 2,72,751, said a bulletin issued by National Health Mission (NHM).
