Health worker tests COVID-19 positive in Assam

GUWAHATI: A health worker from Baihata Chariali in Kamrup district of Assam has tested positive for COVID-19. The health worker identified as Saiful Islam works as a  sanitary inspector at Bihdia block primary health centre.

According to reports, Saiful came into contact with a COVID-19 patient on May 27 night on the line of duty. He was under home quarantine since then. Saiful, a resident of Nagaon village in Baihata Chariali has been shifted to Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) in Guwahati after his test report emerged as COVID-19 positive.

Saiful allegedly visited many shops and a post office of his locality flouting home quarantine norms.  

“The patient has been shifted to MMCH. We have sealed Platinum Pharmacy and a grocery shop owned by Sambhu Patel at baihata Chariali. He visited Baihata post office today morning. The post office has also been sealed,” said Dr. Ankita Sarm, Kamalpur revenue circle officer.
