Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a woman was brought to a city hospital with 70 to 80 percent burns after allegedly being harassed by her in-laws.
According to sources, the woman has been identified as Nikita Agarwala Khemka (31), a resident of Christian Basti area, was found in a burnt state at her residence.
According to sources, Nikita has been rushed to the private Nemcare Hospital in a severe condition on Thursday night.
The woman was reportedly being tortured for a long time, suspectedly for dowry by her husband and his family. The couple had been married since 2018.
Meanwhile, the husband, identified as Kaushik Khemkak, has been detained by the police.
Nitika’s mother claimed that after noticing smoke billowing from Khemka’s apartment, neighbours and building security staff reportedly rushed to the building.
Brother of Nikita Agarwal Khemka have lodged an FIR against her in-laws and husband at the Dispur PS in Guwahati.
Police have detained Kaushik Khemka for interrogation, and a FIR has been filed under multiple sections of the IPC.
Furthermore, the victim’s family has made significant charges of abuse and torture against the Khemkas.
