Guwahati: Assam police arrested two more accused in Guwahati’s Garigaon rape case on Friday.
The arrested accused were identified as Faijul Ali and Puna Ali.
Earlier, on Wednesday, prime accused Biki Ali was killed in a police encounter in this connection.
Following the incident, both Faijul and Puna, as well as the other two accused was absconding.
Last week, Biki and four others sexually assaulted the minor and also filmed her by making videos of the entire incident. A case was registered against the five accused at the All Women Police Station in Panbazar.
The girl’s family claimed in the complaint that she was raped on February 16. Two of the accused also recorded the incident and threatened to release it on the internet if she reported it. On February 19, they allegedly promised to remove the film and called the victim to a hotel in Guwahati, where they sexually abused her once again.
The case has been registered under Sections 376 (D) of the IPC, Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, and 67(B) of the IT Act against the five accused.
Following the incident, all the five accused were on the run. A search operation was on and police sources claimed that they have got valuable leads in the case already.
The incident created a stir across the state. City police also came under heavy criticism for failing to nab any of the accused for almost a week.
