GUWAHATI: After a post graduate student of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) tested COVID-19 positive on Thursday night, two boys hostels of the GMCH have been declared as containment zones. Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the hostels on Friday morning to inspect the situation.
According to reports, PG boys hostels no. 1 and 2 have been declared as containment zones. The boarders of the hostels have been restricted to come outside the hostels.
On the other hand, GMCH has been closed for new patients in the view of COVID-19 pandemic.
“Although we are closing the hospital (GMCH)for new patients, special arrangements will be in place for patient already admitted and collection of new swab samples. Soliciting cooperation and understanding from all, in the interest of public safety,” minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.
Later, health minister Sarma visited Dr. B. Barooah Cancer Institute which has also been declared as a containment zone. The institute has been declared as a containment zone following the death of a girl who was a grand-daughter of a casual cleaner. The girl tested COVID-19 positive after her death.
On Thursday, 8 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Assam. Among them, 4 cases were from Cachar district who had travelled from Rajasthan to Assam with another COVID-19 patient.
