Guwahati Traffic Police fined over 8,000 people for not wearing helmet

Guwahati: After the Kamrup (M) District Transport Office (DTO) made wearing of helmets compulsory for both rider and the one on pillion, the Guwahati Traffic Police has ramped up its drive against violators of the new order across the capital city.

In its drive against helmet-related violations, Guwahati Traffic police have fined over 8,127 people in the city, an official report said.

Taking to the Twitter, Traffic Guwahati Police wrote, “As directed by Hon CM @himantabiswa, for safety of our citizens, a total of 8,127 violators have been fined for helmet related violations. Our drive will continue until roads are safe for everyone. Please wear a helmet when you drive or ride pillion on a #HelmetsSaveLives.”

 

To curb the increasing road accidents in the city, on December 1, District transport Office Kamrup (M), had made it mandatory for both the riders on a two-wheeler to wear helmets.

As per the transport department, the drive will continue until the roads are safe for everyone.
