Guwahati Tourist spots on last Sunday of the Year witness low footfall

GUWAHATI: Unlike every year, most of the tourist spots in Guwahati witnessed lower footfall on the last Sunday of the year. Every year, tourists throng some popular destinations of the city during the last weekend of the year.

But this year, the rush of the visitors at Regional Science Centre, Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden, Guwahati Planetarium significantly dipped to 50-60 percent. These popular spots saw lower turn out in December which is regarded as the peak of the season.

The fall reportedly started from December 10 at the wake of violent protests in the state. According to official sources of Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, it has recorded 60% decline in the tourist footfall from December 10. It has also cancelled the New Year special programme on January 1.

Assam State Zoo which collects highest revenue every year has recorded almost 50 percent fall in the number of tourists visiting the zoo in December.

Regional Science Centre in Guwahati is also reportedly witnessing lower turn out from December 10. According to an official of the science centre, this year, the centre has witnessed 50 percent fall in tourist turn out.
