Guwahati to host three IPL matches, confirms Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI, Jan 6: Amid the gloom surrounding the washed-out India-Sri Lanka T20I tie, there is some good news to raise the spirits of cricket fans of the region. Guwahati will host three IPL matches in the upcoming season of the tournament. This was confirmed by Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. 

Sarma, who visited the Dwijing festival in Chirang, said BCCI secretary Jay Shah had assured him of Guwahati getting three IPL matches to host in the upcoming season of the cash-rich tournament.

“I had a brief discussion with Jay Shah, secretary of the BCCI, yesterday and he assured me that 3 IPL matches are definitely going to take place in Guwahati,” Sarma said.

Incidentally, Rajasthan Royals co-owner Manoj Bedale had announced in November last year that his team will play at least two matches at the Barsapara cricket stadium.
