GUWAHATI: The Assam Forest Department and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau conducted an operation at the Kamakhya Devalaya area and recovered a large quantity of animal parts and other valuable forest products from their possession. Three smugglers belonging to other states have been arrested in the operation.
The arrested have been identified as Jitendra Shah, Rahul Choudhury and Santosh Gupta. Cash amounting to Rs. 50,000 was also recovered from the trio.
The gang had been operating a black market of animal parts and other prohibited forest items from the Kamakhya Hill area for some time.
The Assam Forest Team was led by Rajeev Barua, DFO,Kamrup East Territorial Division.
Another operation was launched at Ganeshguri area of Guwahati by the Assam Forest Department and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau. Senior officers of the Forest Department are interrogating the arrested persons.
