Guwahati Smart City: Rs. 370 crore nod for Brahmaputra Riverfront project

GUWAHATI: Moving ahead with the concept of transforming Guwahati into a Smart City a 1.3 kilometre stretch of the Brahmaputra Riverfront project has been given a go ahead at a cost of Rs. 370 crore. Reviewing various projects under the Smart City Mission, Assam chief minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the concerned departments and officials to speed up the jobs.

The Riverfront is located on the south bank of Brahmaputra River and part of the central area of Guwahati. A six kilometre long riverfront stretches between Rajbhawan (Kharghuli Hill) to Kamakhaya Temple (Nilachal Hill). Facilities like Walkway, Cycle track, Jogging track etc. are to be developed for the visitors and residents of Guwahati.

Proposed infrastructure works at the Brahmaputra Riverfront include: Viewpoint, Waterstairs, Fountains, Interactive ponds, Ramps, Stairs, Jetty, Ferry Terminals, Kiosk, Bridges over outflow structures, etc.
