GUWAHATI: Silence has gripped the Kamakhya Devalaya atop picturesque Nilachal Hills in Guwahati as Ambubachi will be observed this year without the presence of Sadhus and devotees. In view of COVID-19 pandemic, the fair which attracts more than 25 lakh vistors has been cancelled. The devalaya authorities have banned the entry of sadhus, sanyasis and devotees to the temple premises.
As a precautionary measure, only rituals will be observed during the Ambubachi at the famous Saktipeeth of the country. The Ambubachi will begin with the Nibriti at 7.53 AM on Monday. The doors of the temple will remain closed from Monday. Doors will be reopened on June 25.
However, despite the most anticipated festival, silence has prevailed at the devalaya.
“It is an unusual situation for all of us. We have never seen such a scene in our life. The reason is COVID-19,” said a priest.
The doors of the temple have remained shut for visitors since March 20 as a preventive measure against Covid-19. The nationwide lockdown started on March 25.According to the devalaya authorities, the doors will remain shut till June 30.
