Guwahati or Assam no longer safe: Himanta Biswa Sarma

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: With the surge of COVID-19 positive cases in Assam, health minister Dr. Himanta Sarma said that Guwahati or Assam has remained no longer safe. Dr. Sarma stated that the number of beds for COVID-19 patients will also gradually decrease.

Minister Sarma urged people in other states not to return to Assam if it is not necessary. He mentioned that the State Government has already paid the second instalment of the financial assistance to the people stranded outside the State. He advised the people to stay at their places as the situation in Assam may deteriorate.

“We have limited facilities. After a certain point of time there will be some problems,” said Dr. Sarma.

However, the health minister mentioned that majority of the recent cases have been found from quarantine centres which lower the risk of further spread. He appealed to the people of Assam to stand by the side of the doctors and nurses and boost their morale.

Assam on Friday recorded highest-one-day-spike with 49 COVID-19 cases which takes the tally to 259. Currently, there are 198 active cases in the State.
