Guwahati might host two IPL matches in 2020

PUBLISHED:

Guwahati: For the very first time Guwahati might get a chance to host two IPL matches in its 2020 edition at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

The news came into light when the official website of Indian Premier League (IPL) published the news that Rajasthan Royals will play against Delhi Capitals on April 5th, 2020 and then against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 9, 2020 respectively.

However, the schedule for the IPL 2020 does not figure Guwahati as a confirmed venue for Rajasthan Royals’ two home matches as Jaipur is the home ground for them.

Though Guwahati’s name featured in the list of venues, however, it seems that the organisers have kept Guwahati as an ‘optional’ venue.

The Rajasthan High Court on coming Thursday is expected to give the judgement on the PIL that has challenged the decision of Royals to shift a couple of venues to Guwahati for the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The decision was made during a meeting between Royals, IMG-Reliance (IMG-R), the parent body of the T20 league, and Assam Cricket Association (ACA).

The 13th season of Indian Premier League is scheduled to get underway on March 29. Defending champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings would be locking horns in the opening game of the IPL 2020 at the Wankhede Stadium.

A few days back Assam Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma took his official twitter handle to share the news.
