Guwahati: Men try dumping dead body from Saraighat, arrested


GUWAHATI:  Guwahati Police arrested a youth in the Jalukabri area on Wednesday night while trying to dispose of a dead body in the Brahmaputra river.

According to reports, the dead body was stuffed in a trunk and was brought to Saraighat bridge where they were about to dispose of the body. As it was curfew time and the patrolling Police team noticed a group of people trying to throw something in the Brahmaputra river. They rushed to the spot and managed to nab one identified as Mohan Giri of Amingaon. It is to be mentioned that the group of miscreants including the car used to carry the body fled before the police arrived but Mohan who came with a scooty bearing registration number-AS01-DS-5822 was caught by the police team.

Meanwhile, Senior police officials arrived and launched an investigation but no trace of the gang or the car could be traced.

After interrogation, Mohan Giri admitted that the dead body was brought from Pandu 6 number colony in a private vehicle by a few youths and they agreed to pay Mohan a huge amount of money for helping them dispose of the body.

 Police suspect that it could be a murder. However, Information on whether it is a murder or not will come to light only after the investigation completes.
