Over 100 houses were gutted in a massive fire that broke out in Harizan Colony in Fatasil area of Guwahati on Friday (December 9) evening.
Several fire tenders were rushed to the spot and they brought the situation under control.
Officials said that there were no reports of any injuries so far.
As per eye witness, around 12 cylinders exploded in the fire.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed authorities to provide relief measures including food and shelter to those affected people.
Two state ministers Ashok Singhal and Jayanta Mallabaruah also rushed to the spot to inspect the scene.
“Visited Fatasil Ambari in Guwahati along with my cabinet colleague Shri @jayanta_malla, where a devastating fire has engulfed the area due to multiple cylinder blast,” Ashok Singhal tweeted.
“We are coordinating with the administration to provide necessary support & assistance to the people affected,” he added.
