Guwahati: Maharishi Vidya Mandir keeps school open

GUWAHATI: Despite the Assam government’s order to shut all the educational institutes from today to March 29 to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Maharishi Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School at Silpukhuri in Guwahati kept the school open today.

Amid the mounting fear of Coronavirus, the students of the school attended their regular classes today. The guardians expressed their resentment against the school authority for not following the government’s order.

However, bowing to the intense criticism, the school principal sought apology for opening the school despite the restrictions of the government.

“I know I have gone against the government. I seek apology for that. I have done mistake,” said the school principal.

However she expressed inability to provide sanitizer to all the students.

On Sunday, the principal secretary of the Assam government Kumar Sanjay Krishna announced the closure of all the educational institutes including universities, colleges, schools along with gyms, swimming pools and cinema halls till March 29 to prevent the Coronavirus outbreak.
