GUWAHATI, Dec 19: An adult leopard that entered into an under-construction building in Fatasil Ambari area of Guwahati was finally tranquilized, four hours after it unleashed panic and terror in the locality. The leopard, which was spotted in the under-construction building, attacked and injured three persons, including two forest guards.

The leopard had strayed into the building at Gauri Sarma Colony in Fatasil Ambari area and subsequently attacked a youth who was working as a labour.

The injured person who sustained injuries in his head, neck and knee was later rushed to a nearby hospital.

After the attack the locals informed the forest department.

It took forest and police officials a lot of effort to tranquilize the animal as they didn’t have a clear view of it.

In this effort two forest guards were also injured after they were attacked by Leopard.

Forest officials finally managed to put the tranquilized animal in a cage and shift it to the Assam state zoo, Guwahati at about 11:30 am.

As Guwahati is surrounded by forest and hills, leopards are frequently seen in the city and the big cats sometimes also enter houses.

The issue of human-animal conflict is a significant problem in Assam. In addition to elephants, there have been rare sightings of leopards in various locations of the state.
