Guwahati: First loaded electric train arrives at Kamakhya Station

Guwahati: In another milestone for Indian Railways, a loaded train pulled by electric locomotive arrived at the Kamakhya Railway Station in Guwahati on Thursday (October 21).

It was the first electric run of a loaded train in Assam.

Earlier, trains with electric locomotives travelled till New Jalpaiguri and New Cooch Behar in West Bengal, from where diesel locomotives were attached for journey towards Assam.

“Today Kamakhya station under Lumding division @RailMinIndia welcomed UP NTSK Parcel with electric locomotive no 32049 at 09-20 hrs. This is the first ELECTRIC RUN of a loaded train upto Kamakhya. Another milestone towards faster and environment friendly mode of transportation,” Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) tweeted on Thursday.


Earlier this month, Ministry of Railways had informed that the NFR has successfully completed the electrification work of total 649 Route Kilometer (RKM)/ 1294 Tonne Kilometer (TKM) of High-Density Network (HDN) from Katihar to Guwahati.

“This great feat will now connect all major cities of the country with Guwahati on seamless Electric Traction. This is yet another effort by NFR for capital connectivity by Green Transportation,” Ministry of Railways had said in a statement on October 11.
