Guwahati: Assam CM Visits Residence Of Murdered Elderly Couple

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the residence in Chandan Nagar area Survey, Guwahati.  of an elderly couple who was murdered on October 26.

The couple was allegedly brutally murdered by robbers who barged into their house on the night of October 25, Monday.

The husband-wife pair have been identified as Noni Gopal Baruah (86) and Mina Baruah (76).

CM Sarma took to his Twitter and wrote, “Visited the residence of deceased elderly couple – late Nani Gopal Baruah & late Mina Baruah – at Chandan Nagar, Beltola, Guwahati. Expressed my anguish over the incident & conveyed my condolences to the couple’s daughter. Police have made significant progress in the probe.”

CM Sarma assured the guilty will be given strict punishment and the case will be resolved soon. 

The Chief Minister also interacted with the family members of the deceased couple and said that most of the evidence has been collected and the investigation will be completed soon. 

He said that the law and order enforcement agencies are waiting for the forensic evidence and based on it interrogations and other procedures will follow.

On October 26, Akash Choudhury, the caretaker of the elderly couple, was arrested.  His wife is also  being detained in suspect of the murders of Noni Gopal Baruah and Mina Baruah. Besides, two other suspects Satyendra Singh and Paresh Choudhury were also detained for interrogation. Singh was present at the victims’ residence on Monday night.

In the latest development, on Wednesday Guwahati police also detained two more persons in the elderly-couple murder case. The detainees were identified as Buddhdeb alias Babul and Joon Saikia. Currently both of them are being interrogated at Dispur police station.
