Guwahati: The official website of Gauhati University (GU) was hacked in the wee hours of Sunday morning. The officials of GU had to suddenly swing into action on the morning of Dec 1st, 2019 after reports that the home page of the site was redirected to a page full of pornographic photographs.
Users said that on visiting the home page of the website they could see a message flashing on the website along with a link popped up on the screen – Upcoming question papers leaked: Question Papers. When users clicked on the link, they were directed to a pornographic site.
The GU website remained breached and defaced for sometime after hackers claiming to be Khanbaris hacked the site.
The hacking came into light in the morning when some users reported about the website to the GU authorities.
However, the authorities immediately consulted their IT teams without wasting any time further and restored the website sometime back.
It may be mentioned, GU had to cancel and postpone the 3rd-semester Political Science examination as the GU authorities failed to print the question paper for ‘Politics in India’. The examination has now been re-scheduled on Dec 10th, 2019
