Grocery shops in Guwahati open from today

GUWAHATI: Amid lockdown induced by the surge in COVID-19 cases, the stand-alone grocery shops in Guwahati have been allowed to open from Monday to Friday (July 6-10). The shops will remain open from 11 AM to 4 PM.

Addressing a press meet in Guwahati on Sunday, Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged the citizens of the city to follow all the precautions.

“The grocery shops will remain open till Friday. So don’t rush to the shops,” Dr. Sarma said.

According to the official order, shopkeepers and customers will have to wear masks, hand gloves and maintain social distancing. Responsibility of maintenance of social distancing will be on the shop owners and failure to do so will be viewed very seriously and may entail closure of defaulting shops. Maintenance of price line and prevention of artificial shortage will be the responsibility of shop keepers and food, civil supplies and consumer affairs department.

On the other hand, house to house sale of fruits and vegetables etc. is allowed between 8 AM and 2 PM on Monday and Wednesday (6 and 8July).

The administration has restricted the roadside vending of any fruit, vegetable or fish.
