Amid the heart-wrenching incident of a Nagaon paper mill employee committing suicide at the mill precints in Jagiroad last week, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Tuesday said the Governments, both at the Centre and in the State, will take measures to revamp the paper Nagaon and Cachar paper mills.

Chief Minister Sonowal said the government is exploring all options, including legal ones, to ensure that the two paper mills become functional once again.

“I would like to assure people of Assam that the Government is looking into all options to revamp the two paper mills,” Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said.

Meanwhile, employees of the two paper mills along with their family members have welcomed Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s announcement but said the government should not just make assurances but should also deliver on them.

They further said that in case the government fails to keep its promise, they would have no other option but to take extreme steps like mass suicide.

“We welcome the announcement mabe by CM Sarbananda Sonowal. But the government should not only dole out promises and assurances but also take concrete action,” an employee told News Live.

“If the government fails to keep its promise, we will have no option but to take extreme measures. We are prepared to commit mass suicide if the government does not solve our woes,” wife of an employee of Nagaon Paper Mill said.
