GUWHATI: “Gogoiji was my Guru, teacher. He explained Assam to me. It’s a personal loss for me,” said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi while paying tribute to former Assam chief minister and Congress veteran Tarun Gogoi in Guwahati on Wednesday.
Recalling his rapport with the three-time chief minister of Assam, Gandhi said that Gogoi explained to him about Assam, its complexities and beauties like nobody can.
“Though Gaurav is his son. He treated me in a similar way,” Rahul Gandhi said.
Gandhi also stated that Tarun Gogoi was not just a leader of Assam, but a national leader.
“Gogoi was not just a leader of Assam, but he was a formidable CM. He was a national leader. He inspired us by bringing the people of Assam together, by bringing peace to the state. He did great service to Assam and he did tremendous service to India,” Rahul added.
The top Congress leader reached Guwahati on Wednesday morning to pay his last respect to Tarun Gogoi who had passed away on Monday. Gandhi reached at Srimanta sankardeva Kalakshetra to bid adieu to Gogoi where the mortal remains of the senior Congress leader have been kept.
