GUWAHATI: The Greater Guwahati Qureshi Meat Association has fixed the rate of goat meat at Rs. 650 for 31st December. For meat lovers of Guwahati it would mean an increase of Rs. 50 from the present price of Rs. 600.
Maqbool Ahmed, secretary of the meat association stated that there is a supply constraint during festivals. Especially on 31st December, the demand for goat meat goes up. As there is mismatch in demand and supply during this time, the price of goat meat goes northwards said the secretary.
Moreover, the shifting of the goat market from Bhootnath in Guwahati to the Brahmaputra river bank by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation has brought down the supply of goats in the market. So, the meat association has decided this increase of Rs. 50 said Ahmed.
