Guwahati: Every year on the first day of English New Year people in Goalpara, Assam get ready for a traditional horse race.
Organised by the people of Tetelibari area of Nagarbera village under Goalpara district, the horse race sees participants from nearby areas.
“The race committee have been organising the event since last few years providing an opportunity to people coming from different backgrounds showcasing their talents,” said a local resident.
The sport is hugely popular among the locals and hundreds of spectators gather around the race track, turning the venue into a centre of attraction on the race day.
“This is a traditional sport and since the past 4-5 years, we have been organizing this horse race here. This year, too, we have organized the event on the first day of 2020. ” said a member of the organizing committee.
First-prize winner in the race gets a Hero cycle, second-prize winner gets to take home a dining set, said another committee member.
