Former Meghalaya CM’s son dies after car catches fire in Ri-Bhoi district

Guwahati: 37-year-old assistant professor was charred to death when the car he was travelling in caught fire in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district. The incident took place on the Shillong-Guwahati highway on Saturday.

The deceased person was identified as Ferdinand B Lyngdoh, the youngest son of former Meghalaya Chief Minister late E K Mawlong. He was the brother of Congress MLA George Lyngdoh of Umroi constituency. Ferdinand B Lyngdoh was an assistant professor at a college affiliated to the Imphal-based Central Agriculture University.

According to reports, the vehicle in which Ferdinand B Lyngdoh was travelling suddenly caught fire in Umran area on Shillong-Guwahati road. A police official in Ri-Bhoi district said the vehicle was completely gutted before fire tenders could even reach the spot.

The police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the reason behind the accident.
