GUWAHATI: Former governor of Bihar, Tripura and West Bengal and veteran politician Devanand Konwar passed away on Saturday morning. He was 77 year at the time of his demise He breathed his last at his own residence in Guwahati. He joined the Indian National Congress in 1955 as a student leader. He was a cabinet minister during Hiteswar Saikia led government in Assam in 11991.
Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his grief over the death of Konwar.
“Saddened to learn about the demise of former Governor of Bihar, WB & Tripura and former Assam Minister Devananda Konwar. My sincere condolences to bereaved family members and well-wishers,” CM Sonowal tweeted.

Leader of opposition at Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia offered his condolences to family members of Konwar and requested CM Sarbananda Sonowal to assist for the last rites at Sivasagar as per his wish.
On the other hand, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCc) president Ripun Bora also paid his tribute to the veteran politician on Twitter.
“Deeply mourned by the demise of Debanand Konwar, Veteran Congress Leader, Ex-Minister & Former Governor of Bihar & Tripura. May his departed soul rest in peace. My deepest condolence to the bereaved families in this hour of grief,” Bora Tweeted.
