Former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi conferred Padma Bhushan posthumously

Guwahati: Former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi awarded the Padma Bhushan posthumously on Tuesday. His wife Dolly Gogoi received the award from President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhawan in Delhi.

Gogoi, a three-time chief minister, was named for the award for his “exceptional and distinguished service in the field of public affairs.”
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also shared his happiness by joining the family in the moment of pride and joy,

Taking to his Twitter CM Sarma wrote, “The conferring of Padma Bhushan posthumously to former Assam CM Late Sri Tarun Gogoi by Adarniya Rashtrapati Ji is a fine tribute to the great icon of Indian politics and a mass leader. I join the family in this moment of joy! Congratulations.”

He passed away in 2020 owing to post COVID-19 complications and was the longest serving Chief Minister of Assam.Apart from serving as the chief minister of Assam from 2001-2016, the veteran Congress leader also served as a minister of state (MoS) during the PV Narasimha Rao government.Gogoi, a Congress loyalist all his life, rose from the grassroots from his hometown Jorhat. He was the face of the Assam Congress in Delhi till the late 1990s.He represented the Jorhat seat in Parliament on multiple occasions from 1971 and was elected as MP from Kaliabor from 1991-96.
