GUWAHATI: Former Assam Legislative Assembly speaker and Sivasagar MLA Pranab Kumar Gogoi breathed his last at a private nursing home in Guwahati.
Gogoi was 84 at the time of his death. He was born on August 19, 1939 in Dibrugarh.
Pranab Gogoi, a veteran politician of the state was also a cabinet minister in Tarun-Gogoi-led government. He was the speaker of the assembly from 2011 to 2016. Gogoi was re-elected as the legislator of Sivasagar constituency in 2016.
He was elected to Assam Legislative Assembly for four consecutive terms since 2001.
Leaders across the political spectrum condoled the death of the senior Congress leader.
Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed their grief over the death of Gogoi.

On the other hand, his body will be brought to Assam Legislative Assembly to pay the last tribute to the former speaker.
