GUWAHATI: Though the number of COVID-19 positive cases is increasing in Guwahati, some citizens are still paying no heed to the social distancing norms. Betkuchi fish market in the city is another example of lack of awareness about the precautionary measures against COVID-19.
The market has been witnessing violation of social distancing norms though many trucks from other States arrive in the market carrying fish every day. Social distancing norms have been allegedly flouted in the market.
Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has already cautioned that truck drivers coming from other States might be carriers of COVID-19.
Minister Sarma has asked the residents of the city to be careful as many COVID-19 patients with no travel history have been detected in Guwahati.
Several areas have already been declared as containment zones. On Sunday, Kamrup (Metro) district administration declared at least 20 containment zones.
However, many areas in the city including Betkuchi fish market have been witnessing violation of social distancing norms despite surge of COVID-19 positive cases.
