First time in NE: GMCH conducts pacemaker implantation in 20-day-old infant

GUWAHATI: Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) achieved another feat by successfully conducting pacemaker implantation in a 20-day-old infant for the first time in North-East India.

The department of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery (CTVS) conducted the surgery conducted the implantation of permanent epicardial  pacemaker on the infant who was diagnosed with  congenital heart block.

“Today dept of CTVS ,GMCH successfully conducted implantation of permanent epicardial pacemaker in a 20days old infant diagnosedwith congenital heart block.This is for first time in north east.Similar case was also done for a 9yrold child recently” tweeted GMCH superintendent Dr Abhijit Sharma.
