Ferry services between Jorhat and Majuli suspended as Brahmaputra water level rises

GUWAHATI, Aug 8: Ferry services between Jorhat and Majuli have been suspended following a rise in the water level of the mighty Brahmaputra.

Ferry services between Majuli and Neemati Ghat in Jorhat and that between Aphalamukh and Neamati have been suspended with immediate effect until further notice.

at the Nimati Ghat in Assam’s Majuli have been suspended after a rise in the water levels of the Brahmaputra River.

Besides single-engine ferries, plying of Ro-pax ferries in the two routes have also been suspended.

Meanwhile, people living close to the vicinity of the Brahmaputra say the witnessed surging waves this morning amid fears that low-lying areas might witness flooding if the water level continues to surge. District administration officials, meanwhile, are gearing up to meet any eventualities in the event of deterioration in the situation.
