Eminent educationist & social activist Prof Deven Dutta passes away

GUWAHATI, Aug 18: Eminent educationist, social activist and former Vice Principal of Cotton College, Deven Dutta, breathed his last at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at 12:10 am.

He was 81 and was undergoing treatment at the hospital since Aug 11 following some health complications and passed away after suffering a massive cardiac arrest, his daughter told News Live.

Born in Nazira in Sivasagar district, Prof Dutta did his graduation in English from Cotton College before completing his post graduation from Delhi’s Ramjas College in 1965.

Although he began his journey as an academician by joining Gargaon College, he shifted base to Guwahati in 1965 when he joined his alma matar Cotton College as a faculty member in English.

After rendering his services in Cotton College for close to four decades Prof. Dutta retired from service in 2002 as Vice-Principal of the institution. Prof. Dutta had a very close association with News Live and was a regular panelist in numerous prime time talk shows since the inception of the channel.
