Elementary schools in Assam to reopen from January 1, details here

GUWAHATI: After remaining closed for nearly 9 months in the view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the elementary schools in Assam are preparing for reopening from January 1 for classes 1 to 5.

The Assam government has issued a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to take necessary steps to resume the regular classes.

Classes for 1, 2 and 3 standards will be held on every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The students of class 4 and 5 will attend the schools on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The classes will be held from 9 AM to 1.45 PM.

Mid-day meals will be provided from 12.15 PM to 12.45 PM. 

The attendances of the students will not be considered as mandatory. They will be allowed to attend the schools with prior permission from the guardians.

The school authorities can also continue the online classes if they wish.

No cultural functions or meetings will be allowed at the schools till further order.

On the other hand, children below the age of 5 years will not be allowed to attend the schools.

COVID-19 tests for the teachers and mid-day meal workers have been made mandatory. They will undergo rapid antigen tests once in every month.
