Dumper kills 1, injures 2 in Nalbari, people blame MVI

GUWAHATI: A dumper truck dragged 3 pedestrians in National Highway 31 near Ganesh Mandir Chowk in Nalbari on Friday.

The dumper truck operating without a registration plate hit three men as they were walking in the road.

Two of the victims were severely injured while the third died on the spot. The Ghograpar Police with the help of local people immediately rushed the injured to the Nalbari Civil Hospital.

The injured have been identified as Joon Ali of Kardaitola, Nalbari and Pranjal Ali of Barpeta. The deceased is yet to be identified.

The injured have now been shifted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for further treatment.

Police have held the numberless dumper and investigation is going on. After the incident, local people of the area blocked the National Highway for some time.

The local residents have blamed the transport department for the accident.

“The transport department is to be blamed for these accidents. I request the government to look into the role of the motor vehicle inspector. The MVI chases the trucks and some of these vehicles who are without documents try to escape. This is what is leading to the accidents. I request authorities to build a check gate here for the transport department,” stated a local.
